James Joyce Wengert, 86, of 130 Thompson Dr. SE, died Tuesday in St. LukeHospital following a brief illness. Born Sept. 20, 1900, at Holly Springs, he married Martha Ammons on Nov. 10, 1926, at Des Moines. A 1922 journalism graduate of the University of Iowa, he was a longtime publisher and editor for Commerce Publishing Co., St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Wengert and his wife moved from St. Louis to Cedar Rapids in 1971. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi, St. Michaels Episcopal Church, and was an honorary member of Cedar Rapids Rotary Club. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Joan Clark of Santa Fe, N.M., and Joyce Hetherington of Minnetonka, Minn.; a sister, Irene Simmen of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Donohue-Lensing Funeral Home, Iowa City, by the Rev. Roger Rollins. Burial; Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday. The casket will be closed at service time. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
