Edwin W. ?Mack? McCuenMCCUEN, Edwin W. ?Mack? ? Age 89, of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2005. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., on Sunday, September 11, 2005, (Grandparent's Day), at Griffin Park off Riverbanks Road and all friends and family are welcome to attend. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Mack was born on March 19, 1916, in Coulee City, Washington, to Edwin and Mettie McCuen. In his early years, he worked as a construction worker helping to build the Grand Coulee Dam. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army infantry and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese bombing where he helped many survivors to safety. On August 31, 1944, in Centralia, Washington, he married Ruby C. Mandery, who preceded him in death. The family moved from Tenino, Washington, in the 1950's to Roseburg, Oregon, and in 1976, moved to Grants Pass. Mack loved life and was very generous to all. He loved every member of his family very much and was very proud of his Native American heritage. Survivors include a daughter, Joirene Taylor of Grants Pass; three grandsons; and two great-granddaughters; two step-daughters, Arlita White of Grants Pass; and Marcia Potter of Roseburg; seven step-grandchildren; twenty-five step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Richard E. Field.
