Eureka - Edward Stoebner, 106, of Eureka died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, following a seven-year stay at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at the Eureka Reformed Church with Rev. Richard Stetler officiating. Burial will follow at the Eureka City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Organist will be Julie Bentz and soloist will be Ed's great-niece, Kayla Stoebner. Usher will be Blake Mehlhaff. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday. Edward Stoebner, son of Magdalena (Heer) and John Stoebner, was born May 15, 1901, on their farm 12 miles southwest of Eureka. He grew up on the farm, where he worked with his parents and brothers and attended rural school. In 1925, his parents moved into Eureka and Ed and his brother Bill took over the farm. They farmed in partnership until 1939 when Bill took over the farm. Ed moved into Eureka and worked at miscellaneous labor for several years. He served his country in the United States Army, being inducted Oct. 12, 1942. Following his honorable discharge on March 31, 1943, he returned to Eureka. In 1945, he bought a small farm on the southwest edge of Eureka where he raised cattle until retiring in 1968. He married Emma Ehrmann at Aberdeen on July 29, 1947. She died Dec. 17, 2004. Ed belonged to the Eureka Reformed Church, the Fred Weller American Legion Post No. 186, Eureka, S.D., and the Eureka Senior Center. His hobbies included fishing, baseball, and playing cards and pool. Ed is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, six brothers and three sisters. Casketbearers will be Ed's nephews John and Joe Stoebner of Aberdeen, his great-nephew Matt Stoebner of Aberdeen, and Ervin Beck, Perry Hoff, and Stanley Pfeifle of Eureka. Edward Stoebner, 106, of Eureka, SD, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 following a seven year stay at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Eureka Reformed Church with Rev. Richard Stetler officiating. Burial will follow at the Eureka City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Organist will be Julie Bentz and Ed’s great niece, Kayla Stoebner, will sing “Amazing Grace, how sweet the Sound”. The congregation will sing “The old rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset”. Usher will be Blake Mehlhaff.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday.
