She was born and raised on their farm near Tripp, South Dakota, where she spent her early years in the sodhouse on the farmstead. Growing up, Laverna and MaeDora helped with the housework while Gladys helped with the farmwork. Laverna attended grade school with her sister, MaeDora, and graduated from Tripp High School. She attended college for two years and became a schoolteacher. Laverna married Clarence Vogt on June 6, 1956. She was a homemaker, and later worked outside the home as a prep cook. Laverna took pleasure in all of God?s creations, from the blooming of flowers in the spring to the turning of leaves in the fall, and her special love was for all animals. German food and fresh garden produce were two of her favorite things. She had an appreciation for words and music and will be remembered for the thought she put into selecting just the right greeting card for her friends and family?s occasions. Laverna valued education and supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors. Laverna died on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Sherman County Good Samaritan Society in Goodland, Kansas, having attained the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 26 days.Laverna was a devoted mother and grandmother to her two daughters and their families: Cheryl and Rob Cotter, and their children Tom, Katrina, and Jay, all of Goodland, Kansas and Darcy and John Kleinschmit, and their children Jessica, Darek, and Karissa, all of Norfolk, Nebraska.
