- [S927] Obituary.
Anselm Brohammer was born in Baden, Germany, July 21, 1846, and departed this life at the home of his son Charlie Brohammer, Baldwin, Kansas, on April 19, 1925, age 78 years 8 months and 28 days.
He spent his boyhood days in Germany. After serving time in the German Army and having learned the shoemaker's trade, he decided at the age of 19 to come to America. He landed in New York where he remained for a short time. He then went to Akron, Ohio, where some of his former aquaintances were. He was united in marriage on July 29, 1872, to Barbara Fleshman, a widow, and mother of four young children.
They came to Douglas County, Kansas in 1878 and purchased the home still known as the Brohammer farm. He spent the remaining years on this farm, with the exceptions of short intervals spent with his daighters in California.
To this union six children were born; a son, Willie, who with his mother preceded his father to the great beyond, years ago. Those left to mourn his departure are two sons, John and Charlie, of the home, three daughters, Caroline Williams, of Lawrence, Katheryn and Rose Flory of Moorpark, California. He also had two step children, Phillip Fleshman of Baldwin, and Lizze King of Los Angeles, California, twenty three grand children, nineteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. His good life and example will long be remembered by those who knew him, and should earn him a home in heaven.
Funeral services were held in the Willow Springs church on Tuesday afternoon April 21, with Bro. Daniel Flory delivering the sermon.
Pallbearers were his grandsons Raymond, Loren, and Carl Williams, Carl Peterson, James and Herbert Murphy. Burial was in the Flory Cemetery beside his faithful wife.
