ERNEST WILLIAM HORNBERGER Inurnment services for Ernest William Hornberger, 76, Baldwin City, were Saturday at St. John's Cemetery, Worden. Mr. Hornberger died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Hickory Pointe Care and Rehabilitation Center, Oskaloosa. He was born Feb. 20, 1925, at Lone Star, the son of William Henry Hornberger and Lena (Stoebener) Hornberger. He attended Colyer Grade School, Lone Star, and Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence. He worked for Hercules Powder Plant, DeSoto, Baker University, Baldwin City, and the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He retired from the maintenance department at KU in 1977. He married Hazel Virginia Davis in March of 1976 at Eudora. She preceded him in death in May of 1977. Mr. Hornberger was a lifelong member of the St. John's United Church of Christ near Worden. He is survived by one sister, Marie Brohammer and her husband, Harold, Baldwin City; two brothers, Julius Hornberger and his wife, Ida, Baldwin City, and Herbert Hornberger, Overbrook; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Hornberger.
