Marie Elizabeth Brohammer 1924 - 2012 Baldwin City
Marie Elizabeth Brohammer
Marie Elizabeth Brohammer, age 88, of Baldwin City died July 24, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kansas. She was born March 12, 1924, in rural Douglas County, Kansas, the daughter of William Hornberger and Magdalena (Stoebener) Hornberger.
She was a lifelong Douglas County resident, attending Liberty Memorial High School of Lawrence for one year and then obtaining her G.E.D.
Marie was a lifelong homemaker and farmwife, but she also held jobs during much of her life. During World War II she worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in Desoto Kansas and then later in life she was a cook at Baldwin High School for over 20 years, retiring in the 1990’s.
She was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, of rural Douglas County. She was active in the St. John’s Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the VFW’s Women’s Auxiliary.
Marie was united in marriage with Harold Brohammer on December 9, 1952 at the St. John’s United Church of Christ. Harold preceded Marie in death in 2006.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marjory Brohammer in 2009; and three brothers, Herbert Hornberger, Charles Hornberger, and Ernest Hornberger.
She is survived by five daughters; Mary Brohammer of Lawrence, Kansas, Marlena Wallace of Overland Park, Kansas, Martha Brohammer of Haysville Kansas, Marla Royer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Margene Brohammer of Lawrence, Kansas; one brother; Julius Hornberger; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, rural Baldwin City.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.
