MARY ELOISE MENKEL, AGE 90, OF 201 WEST COURT STREET, WOODSFEILD,
DIED APRIL 17 AT THE AMERICARE NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER,
WOODSFIELD. SHE WAS BORN MAY 14, 1898 IN MONROE COUNTY, A DAUGHTER OF
THE LATE H.O. AND SARA JANE DAVIES MANN. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE
WOODSFIELD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY OF
WOODSFIELD.
SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND, CLYDE MENKEL, MAY 1,
1983; AND ONE BROTHER EMMITT MANN.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY ONE DAUGHTER, MRS. RICHARD (MARY ELIZABETH)
HAREN,WOODSFIELD; ONE SON JAMES MENKEL, WOODSFIELD; THREE
GRANDCHILDREN; SEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.
FRIENDS WERE RECEIVED AT THE BAUER-TURNER FUNERAL HOME,
WOODSFIELD APRIL 18 WHERE SERVICES WERE HELD AT 2 P.M. APRIL 19 WITH
PASTOR DAVID GLASS OFFICIATING. INTERMENT WAS IN OAKLAWN CEMETERY,
WOODSFIELD.
Jim Menkel says that his mother's family changed their last name from
Davis to Davies because Elois's Grandfather was the brother of
Jefferson Davis the President of the Confederate States. This would
not have been popular in a County that sent many local men to fight
and die for the north.
