NEW ORLEANS - Leo Pierre Champagne Sr. died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, age 83 years. Beloved husband of Lorraine Ed- wards Champagne and by first marriage the late Lucille Eble Champagne. Father of Leo Pierre Champagne Jr., Jean M. Champagne, Marie Therese Champagne, Michel Joseph Champagne, David Edwards Gazave, Jonathan Charles Gazave and the late Carol Ann Gaz- ave. Son of the late Dora Cecile Fabacher Champagne and Jean George Champagne. Brother of Joseph Henry Champagne and the late Marie Mercedes C. Gary, Marie Cecilia C. Bienvenu and George Jean Champagne Jr. Al- so survived by 14 grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives, friends, officers and members of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Bienville Assembly No. 0314, St. Dominic Holy Name Society, St. Dominic Knights of Columbus Council No. 3729, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Confederate Memorial Hall Foundation, Christian Brothers Foundation, the Veter- ans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 23, American Ex POW's, Disabled American Vet- erans Chapter 23, the John Birch Society, German Heritage Festi- val and Association and Euchar- istic Adoration Society are in- vite to attend the funeral Mass at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harri- son Avenue, New Orleans, La., at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. today at All Faiths Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, and will continue from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Mr. Champagne proudly marched with the LSU Tiger Band and served in the 156th In- fantry Division in the European Theater of World War II. He was a prisoner of war and was liber- ated by General George S. Patton and the 8th Army. He received the Purple Heart. In 1952 he served as the First Prior of the Secular Carmelite Community of Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Lafayette, La. Was past Scout Master of Troop 90 Boy Scouts of America, Charter Member and founding Financial Secretary of Our Lady of Fatima/St. Mary's Knights of Columbus Council No. 3470, Lafayette, La.
In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the Confederate Me- morial Hall Foundation, 929 Camp St., New Orleans, LA 70130 or Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Ave., Lafayette, LA 70501.
