Simon Weisend (March 13, 1890 - October 10, 1949)
Simon Weisend, age 59, of 1047 Fairbank Place, Akron, passed away on Monday night, October 10, 1949, at 10:30 o?clock, in Veterans Hospital at Dayton, ill since November 1946. He had been a patient in the Veterans Hospital at Dayton since July 3, 1947. A son of Mrs. Barbara Weisend and the late Adam Weisend, he was born at Burkhart on Lewisville, Route 1, March 13, 1890. He had been a resident of Akron for thirty-six years, and was employed at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for thirty-two years. Mr. Weisend was a World War I veteran, participating in the Battle of Mihiel and Battle of Meuse-Argonne, being seriously wounded in the latter battle on October 27, 1918. He was a member of Akron Post 209, American Legion, the Goodyear 25 Year Club, and Annunciation Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Haren Weisend; his aged mother, Mrs. Barbara Weisend, of Lewisville, Rt. 1; one sister, Mrs. C. J. Rausch, of Woodsfield, and two brothers, John Weisend, of Lewisville, Route 1, and Joseph Weisend, of Louisville, Stark County.
Funeral services were held in the Annunciation Church at Akron, Friday morning, at 9:30 o?clock. Burial was in the church cemetery. Military services, were accorded by Akron Post 209, American Legion.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weisend, Mr. and Mrs. William Weisend and daughter, Dianne, of Louisville; Mills Hilda Rausch and Elmer Rausch, of Woodsfield; Lawrence Weisend, of Lewisville, Route 1; Leo Weisend of Kent; Mrs. Charles Sliter, of Cleveland; Miss Grace Haren and Miss Clenientine Haren, of Columbus, and John Haren of Los Angeles, California.
