Ralph E. Matz, 84, Chillicothe, died Nov. 20, 2000, in Chillicothe following a brief illness. He was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Woodsfield, the son of William F. and Mary Ann Schaub Matz.
He was a retired corrections officer with the Federal Prison Service. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served with the Seabees in WW II. As a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in West Virginia, his group was responsible for the construction of two State Parks. For many years he was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees on the local and state level. He was an active member of the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ, Chillicothe.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jenny Matz, Wheeling, William E. and Connie Matz, Boerne, TX; five grandchildren, Laura, Gregory, Katherine, Andrew and Kathleen; a great-grandson, Marcellus; nephew, Jim and wife, Rita Matz, Lebanon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; his wife, Dorothy Anne Miller, Jan. 14, 1996, whom he married May 15, 1949.
Friends were received at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Nov 24. Funeral services were held at the Orchard Hill United Church of Christ, Chillicothe, with Pastor Larry Miracle officiating. Burial followed in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe.
