He attended school at Republic and Concordia, and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law. He was united in marriage to Mildred Mary Newsham and to this union two children were born. He lived in the Republic area and was a farmer and stockman, except for time served in the Marine Corps during World War I. He was a 67-year member of the Concordia Elks Lodge, a charter member of 65 years of the Republic Legion Post No. 232, a member of Veterans of World War I Barracks No. 2732, and belonged to the University of Kansas Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Everett; a sister, Clara Stafford. He is survived by a son, William; daughter, Mrs. Donald (Eleanor) McEwen, both of Republic; five grandchildren: Alan McClure of Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Mike (Alana) Maris of Wichita; Charles McEwen of Belleville; Mrs. Joe (Nancy) Knopp of Manhattan; Mrs. Greg (Patricia) McCune of Arlington, Va.; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 27 from Tibbetts Bros. Chapel, Belleville, with Rev. Loren Silsby officiating. Burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
