"Funeral Services for S. C. Breaden Were Held Today
Funeral services for Samuel C. Breaden, well-known and highly respected citizen of Pekin passed away Christmas morning at his home 618 Margaret Street were held this afternoon at the Noel funeral home. Rev. Denekas, pastor of the Second Reformed church officiating. Burial was in Lakeside cemetery.
Samuel C. Braden was born at Yonkers, eWat. Chester County, New York April 16th 1861 (sic). He was the son of George J. and Susan Craft Breaden. He, with his parents, came to Illinois taking up their abode in Peoria in 1857. Two years later the family moved to Pekin, where he has since resided. He was the oldest of a family of eleven children, ten sons and on daughter. He was of staunch old revolutionary stock, his mother's grandfather, Colonel Craft, being an officer under General Washington. On May 2nd 1878, he was united in marriage to Miss Theresa A. Griesemer of Hopedale, Illinois. To this union, four children were born: Clyde W. Breaden, Pekin; Mrs. Minnie Long, East Moline, Illinois; Mrs. Irene Kincaid and Miss Florence Breaden of Pekin all surviving.
The following brothers also survive the deceased: John A. Breaden, Glasgow Junction, Kentucky; Albert M. Breaden, Pekin; Charles Breaden Chicago; Harry L. Breaden of Pekin. Five of his brothers and one sister have preceded him to the great beyond, George Jr., Eugene, William, Frank, Forrest and Mrs. Marie Michael. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen thirty-four years. He was one of the original member of Wideawake Hose Company No. 1 and served as a police officer during the administrations of Mayor Dr. Warren and E. F. Unland."
