"SLIGHT SCRATCH CAUSES DEATH OF A.C. GRIESNER (sic)
Pioneer Citizen of Wichita County Succumbs to Blood Poison After Weeks of Suffering
A slight scratch on the thumb several years ago resulted in the death of A.C. Griesemer, a pioneer resident of Wichita county, at his home in the Allendale community Thursday morning at 1:30 o'clock.
Mr. Griesemer sustained a scratch while at work on his farm. From this slight wound his thumb became inflamed resulting finally in blood poisoning. At first his thumb was amputated, but this did not check the spread of the poison and later it became necessary to amputate his arm. He had become so weakened however, by the poison in his system and by the shock of the operation that he could not rally and died after lingering several weeks between life and death.
Mr. Griesemer was a native of Ohio and had been a resident here nearly twenty-five years. He leaves a widow and two daughters.
The funeral party left the family residence at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon reaching the Bowman church at about 3 o'clock, where the funeral service was held and his body laid to rest.
A Tribute From a Neighbor
The following short sketch of the life and character of A. C. Griesemer has been given The Times by one of his old neighbors and friends:
'The Death Angel visited one of the happiest homes in this community at one o'clock this morning and claimed for its victim Brother A.C. Griesemer. He was born in Miltenburg, O., August 27, 1853. He purchased his home in the community in 1887 and was married November 4, 1890. He leaves a loving wife and two daughters to mourn the great loss."
"Brother Griesemer was bitten four years ago by a spider and blood poison resulted and each summer the attack has recurred. A few weeks ago the malady developed to such an extent that it became necessary to amputate his arm. Afterward septic pneumonia developed and with his system loaded with the poison he lingered several weeks.
Brother Griesemer was one of our best farmers owning a beautiful home. He was a natural musician and always delighted to entertain his friends and neighbors. He was reared in the Catholic faith and was a devoted member of that church to the time of his death.
Unless relatives in Illinois are heard from his funeral will take place at the Bowman cemetery late this afternoon."
