Ruth Turner, 92, of Damascus, Pa., and Bethany Village, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. The Daughter of the late Martin and Alfonsa Baker Wheelock, she was born June 19, 1918 in Conklin Hill, PA. Ruth was married for 55 years to the late Malvin Turner who passed Feb. 1, 1993.
Ruth was a cook at Damascus for Wayne Highlands School district before retirement. She was a member of Delaware Valley National Retired Teachers, a member of Delaware Valley and Jeffersonville Senior Citizens.
A family statement reads" Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Upon retirement she spent many years playing cards. She loved any card game including pinochle. She also enjoyed Scrabble. She was very competitive. She had a brilliant mind all the way up to the end. Also she knitted many afghans for people in the area. Ruth had an optimistic outlook, not a complainer, very upbeat and positive. She will be greatly missed by all."
Survivors include her; daughter: Barbara Pingel and her husband Fred of Beach Lake, Pa. A granddaughter, Andrea Pingel of Bel Camp, Md. A grandson Lee Pingel and his wife Marta of Beach Lake, Pa. Three great grandchildren: Logan, Emma and Ellie Pingel. A Niece: Judy Schott and her husband Richard of Honesdale, Pa.
Ruth is predeceased by her husband Malvin, a sister Catherine Masher and a brother George Wheelock and nephew Charles Wheelock.
Friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, N.Y. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor James Corbin will officiate. Burial will follow in Conklin Hill Cemetery, Damascus, Pa.
