Florence G. Carpenter, 99, died Wednesday, January 24, 2012, at her daughter's home in McMurray.
Born in Delaware County, Ohio on April 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Mary I. Hanson Lumbatis.
She was a registered nurse and private duty nurse having graduated from St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland. She retired in 1968 after working at numerous hospitals including Beaver and the Cleveland Clinic. Florence was a member of the St. Mary's Choir, sewing group and prayer group at Divine Mercy Parish, Beaver Falls, where she was a member. She was an avid bridge player throughout her 99 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Carpenter on August 31, 1984; sisters, Roberta McElfresh and Delilih Young and a brother, Roland Lumbatis.
She is survived by her son, John R. (Juliana) Carpenter, Slippery Rock and her daughter, Mary Ann (Matt) Simon, McMurray; four grandchildren, Mark and Michael Carpenter, Karin Lovejoy and Stephen Verbos; seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Alexander and Joseph Carpenter, Katherine and Ryan Lovejoy, Laurel and Mary Verbos.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1901 Seventh Ave., BEAVER FALLS. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Divine Mercy Parish, Beaver Falls. Rev. James Farnan will officiate.
Private inurnment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Chippewa Twp., at a later date.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Divine Mercy Parish or the Maryknoll Missions, P.O. Box 317, Maryknoll, NY 10545, in Florence's memory.
