Claus, Justus Claus
Justus Claus was born in Hessen, Germany on February 11, 1844 anddeparted this life October 15, 1932, at the age of 88 years, 8 monthsand 4 days. He emigrated to America with his parents in 1847 andsettled in Monroe County, Ohio, where he spent his entire life exceptthe last six years which he spent with his daughter in WashingtonCounty, Ohio. He was confirmed in the Evangelical faith in 1857 atleast 13 years of age, at Middle Church in Monroe County, of whichchurch he has been a member the remaining years of his life. He wasunited in marriage with Caroline Schmidt on February 7, 1867. To thisunion were born ten children, six boys and four girls. His wifepreceded him in death on January 15, 1905. On November 28, 1911 hewas united in marriage with Christina Schmidt. She preceded him indeath on January 29, 1928. Surviving the deceased are the followingchildren: Mrs. Anna Freitag and Henry P. Claus of Monroe County;Edward G. Claus and Mrs. Erwin Schurr, of Pittsburgh; Herman W., JacobJ. and Clarence D. Claus of Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Wilhelm ofParkersburg, and Mrs. Clara Theiss of Lower Salem. He also leaves tomourn his departure in addition to his nine children, 36grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; one brother, Frederick Claus,of Lewisville, R. 1; 24 nieces and nephews and a host of otherrelatives and friends. Short funeral services were held Tuesday atthe home with final obsequies at Miltonsburg Evangelical Church. Rev.Henry Fox was in charge of the services. Interment was made in theMiltonsburg cemetery.
