Stanley VoellingerStanley Elmer Voellinger, 71, of Swansea, Ill., born June 9, 1936, in Belleville, Ill., died suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007.Mr. Voellinger was a retired award winning salesman and owner of Swansea Convenience Mart. To stay busy in his retired years he was a bus driver for Laidlaw Charter Bus Service and was also a limousine driver for Kelly Services. "Stan the Man" was regarded as one of the best power hitters ever to play men's County League Baseball in the Southwestern Illinois Area. He was inducted into the Mon-Clair Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2000. A 1954 graduate of Belleville Cathedral High School, Stan obtained an Associate Degree from Belleville Area College. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Belleville Jaycees and Belleville Knights of Columbus. While with the Jaycees, Stan received recognition for hosting free baseball clinics for youth in the Belleville Area and also coached in the Belleville Parks and Recreation Department Baseball Leagues. However, Stan was most proud of his volunteer work that spanned many decades. He was a recognized lifetime blood donor to the American Red Cross. Stan was a volunteer for the DARTS van for many years, and organized fundraising baseball tournaments to benefit the Women's Crisis Center. Stan earned the prestigious award of Swansea Citizen of the Year for his charitable works. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen Voellinger; a brother, Paul Robert Voellinger, who died in infancy; his first wife, Marilyn, nee Farrow, Voellinger; and a son, Stanley E. Voellinger, who died in infancy.Surviving are his wife, Faye Voellinger of Swansea, Ill.; his children, Vicki Leombruno of Swansea, Ill., Scott Voellinger of Dubuque, Iowa, Sharon (Steven) Kaffer of Vaughn, Wash., and Linda (Russell) Harrell of Kobe, Japan; his grandchildren, Erica Leombruno of Kent, Wash., Shaylyn and Adrien of Dubuque, Iowa, Matthew and Roger Kaffer of Vaughn, Wash., and Tyler, Austin and Collin Harrell of Kobe, Japan; his sisters, Helen Dee Gravlin of Hazelwood Mo., and Mary Ann (Richard) Tiemeyer of Chesterfield, Mo.; and a brother, Art (Karen Fitzgerald) Voellinger of Belleville, Ill.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Violence Prevention Center, Stan Voellinger Memorial, P.O. Box 831, Belleville, Ill., 62222.Funeral: Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at St. Peter's Cathedral Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill., with retired Auxiliary Bishop Roger L.
