Hired April 19, 1948 and left January 3, 1949 to go to New York or Philadelphia to join the Merchant Marines. He was 5 foot 8 inches tall, with blue eyes and blond hair. At the time he had completed 3 years at Arsenal Jr. High (he later completed his education). Previous employers were Joseph Horne Company as a packer for 7 months and the Sun Telegraph as an office boy for 7 1/2 months.

Born January 11, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA. Passed away January 16, 2006 in Scottsdale Arizona.
Earl is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne Simmers, children, Leighanne (Kyle) Twaddle, Earl IV (Debi) Simmers, Melissa (Paul) Basch, grandchildren Jessica Simmers, Christopher Simmers, Ryan Twaddle, Meagan Twaddle, and Dori Basch. He is also survived by brother, Charles (Edna) Simmers, sisters Ruth (Bob) Nishik, and Ella Hall, nieces Susan and Mary Nishik and nephew Peter Hall.
Earl was a retired Police Officer of 21 years, serving with the police department in Yuma AZ and with the State at ASU here in Tempe AZ.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 1:00 P.M. at Desert Foothills United Methodist Church, 2156 E. Liberty Lane, Phoenix AZ 85048-8150. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the church for their music ministry as music was one of Earls greatest enjoyments.
