Stephen S. Lumbatis
U.S. Veteran
Stephen S. Lumbatis, 93, of Nashport, Ohio died Friday morning November 15, 2013 at Genesis Morrison House in Zanesville. Born December 20, 1919 in Monroe County, Ohio he was a son of the late George W. and Ollie P. (Feiock) Lumbatis and he was an Army veteran of World War II. When he was 16 years old he left home to work in the oil field. He then proceeded to work all over the country drilling oil, gas and water wells. He spent a large amount of time in Wyoming and other parts of the west before moving back to Ohio. Mr. Lumbatis retired in 1984 from Cameron Brothers Drilling where he was an oil rig driller. He was an avid coin collector and he enjoyed watching baseball and other sports as well as following the many activities of his grandchildren. He was a teller of tall tales, none we doubted but few we could verify. He also enjoyed baking cakes and was a great cook. He leaves this world truly loved and terribly missed. Surviving is one son, Larry Lumbatis of McConnellsville, Ohio; a daughter, Ruthe (Blair) Magaziner of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Patty Lumbatis (Ken) Bright of Nashport, Jason (Amy) Lumbatis of Malta, Ohio and Allix Magaziner (Nate) of Atlanta, Georgia; three great grandchildren, Andy Lumbatis, Jamie Bright and Townes Hunt; a special lady friend, Dot Fink of Newark, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann I. (Weisend) Lumbatis whom he married February 5, 1950 and who died April 22, 1998; a sister Leola Dean Lumbatis and two brothers, Robert Dale Lumbatis and George Franklin Eugene Lumbatis. Calling hours will be 2pm to 4pm Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, November 18, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Bentley officiating. Burial will be in Irville Cemetery, Nashport, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or to the Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
