ROBERT BAUER1916-2006VAN WERT ? Robert J. Bauer, 89, Van Wert, died at 12:12 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at his residence.He was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Van Wert County, the son of Arthur and Marie (Schmidgall) Bauer. On April 2, 1938, he married Mildred Fiock, who preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1982. On April 5, 1986, he married Mary Hitchcock, who died on Aug. 2, 2005. A lifelong farmer in Van Wert County, he was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert, member and past president of Union Township School Board, former director of the Scott Equity Exchange, formerly served on the Paulding County-Van Wert Area Committee of the Farmer?s Home Administration; a past officer of the former St. Paul?s Lutheran Church (currently Redeemer Lutheran Church) in Convoy, and a former supervisor for the Van Wert Soil & Water Conservation Department. He was selected as Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1959.Surviving are his children Rosita (Harry) Nothstine of Derby, Kan., and Shirley (Ronald) Schumm of Van Wert; two stepchildren, Dianne (James) Atkins of Port Richey, Fla., and Melva (David) Lupton of Oconomowoc, Wis.; two brothers, Herbert (Betty) Bauer of Ohio City and Arthur (Jeannie) Bauer of Van Wert; three sisters, Lucille (William) Hulwick of Littleton, Colo., Florence (Graydon) Stuckey of Van Wert, and Gloraine (John) Stelzer of Defiance; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and eight great-stepgrandchildren.Services where held Saturday, March 25 at Gearhart, Mack & Jurczyk Funeral Home in Convoy, with the Rev. Raymond Feeck officiating. Burial was in Convoy IOOF Cemetery.
