On the morning of Jan. 19, 2010, Edna (Fiock) Orr passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Madrone Hospice House.
Edna was born in Ashland, Ore. on April 19, 1926, the daughter of Henry and Florence Fiock. She grew up on the pioneer family cattle ranch on the Shasta River, attending school at the Shasta River School, Yreka Elementary and Yreka High School. Following graduation, she attended nurses training at the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Eugene, Ore., graduating in 1947. She began her nursing career in Boise, Idaho, caring for people in the Polio Epidemic Hospital. She was later called home to care for her grandmother who had suffered a broken hip. In 1948, she took employment at the Siskiyou General Hospital, where she lovingly cared for and befriended many Siskiyou County residents before retiring in 1988.
On a blind date in 1948, she met Robert (Bob) Orr and they were married on Oct. 15 of the following year at the Yreka Methodist Church. During their 60 years of marriage, they traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and China. Edna enjoyed golf, spending time with family and friends, and a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Edna leaves behind her husband Bob; her son David and his significant other Lynna; her daughters, Leanne Gangler and Lisa Duranleau and her husband Gregg; her grandchildren, Amy and Jon Orr, Shawn and Lindsay Gangler, and Meagan and Allison Duranleau; and great-grandchildren, Jarred and Alannah. She is also survived by her brother-in law Bob Ohlund, her sister-in-law Sietske Fiock and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Everette Fiock and her sister Hazel Ohlund.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at Girdner?s Funeral Chapel.
