Obituary for Sietske K. Fiock
Sietske Fiock passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Northern California Rehabilitation Hospital in Redding, California. She was 79 years old.
Sietske Koorda was born on February 23, 1932, in Mount Shasta, California, to Dutch immigrants, Wiebe ?Bill? and Sjoerdtje ?Susie? Koorda. She attended schools in Quartz Valley, Etna, Gazelle, and Yreka, graduating from Yreka High School with the class of 1949. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Yreka and Lake Tahoe. She married Everette Fiock on September 2, 1956, in Yreka, and raised three children.
Sietske was active with the children in P.T.A., Girl Scouts and Job?s Daughters. She joined Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in 1958, and was a member of the Grand Jury for two terms in the 1980?s. She was a member of the Siskiyou County Cattle Women, and was honored as the 1995 Siskiyou County Cattle Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the Trail Riders, Siskiyou County Historical Society, and her class reunion committee. She enjoyed life long friendships with the members of these organizations.
Everette and Sietske traveled to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, and Victoria, Canada before his death in 1994. She also traveled to Europe, Hawaii, and Branson, Missouri, and took an Alaskan cruise in 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Fiock, her sons Bruce Fiock (Lori), and Boyd Fiock (Jenifer), and five grandchildren, Matthew Fiock, Andrew Fiock, Amber Fiock, Melissa Fiock, and Trevor Fiock. Other family members include brothers-in-law Robert Orr and Robert Colldeweih, nieces Carol Gross (David), Barbara Freeman (Bob), Susan Dorsey (Dan), Sharon Koorda (Joel), Rhonda Bailey (Jerry), Leanne Gangler, Lisa Duranleau (Gregg), and Cindy Brewer (Ray); nephews Barry Ohlund (Ann), David Orr (Lynna), and Bill Colldeweih (Theresa). She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Betty Sauer, and Janke Colldeweih, and her brother Gerben Koorda.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at 11:00 am at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka. Memorial contributions may be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka; the Siskiyou County Historical Society, 910 S. Main St., Yreka; or a charity of one?s choice.
