Obituary, The Barnesville Enterprise, December 17, 1970, Page 3, Column 5, Section 2: Mary L. Hunkler - Mary L. Hunkler, resident of 138 Euclid Avenue, Barnesville, died at Barnesville Hospital, Saturday, December 12th at 7 A.M. Mrs. Hunkler was 82 years of age and had been in failing health for quite some time. Born in Washington County on July 14, 1888, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret Painter Diegmiller. He family, her church and her community were all beneficiaries of her devoted service. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption and was a faithful worker in the Catholic Women?s Club and the Alter Society. She was a tireless worker in both the Mothers? Club and in the Garden Club, and she served as president of both organizations. As one of the original members of the Barnesville Park Commission, Mrs. Hunkler was invaluable in the development of the Memorial Park and in its growth for more than 15 years. Mrs. Hunkler did an untold amount of charitable work among the needy, often fulfilling their need herself or quietly chanelling the need to persons or groups who could meet them. Preceded death by her husband, John, in 1955 and one son, Walter in 1951, she is survived by three sons, Arthur, Mancel and Robert, all of Barnesville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Diegmiller of Barnesville and George Diegmiller of Wellsburg, W.Va.; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Hudson of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. One brother and one sister are deceased. Friends were received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home on North Chestnut Street after 11:30 A.M. Sunday and on Monday Requiem Mass was held Tuesday, December 15th at 10 A.M. at the Church of the assumption, with the Reverend Father John Reardon as celebrant. Burial was made in the church cemetery. The Rosary was recited Monday at 7 P.M.
