Matz, Clarence G. MatzSource--Monroe County Beacon Woodsfield, OhioPublished--January 1989Clarence G. Matz, 100, formerly of 614 Western Drive, Wooster, died January 24, 1989 at Horn Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the last four years.Services were held January 27 at Custer Funeral Home, Wooster with Reverend Armin C. Bizer and Reverend Richard Wierwille officiating followed by burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.Matz was born in 1888 to Phillip and Elizabeth (Ripper) Matz in Monroe County. He moved to Wooster in 1924 from Lewisville. He worked for various oil fields, a sheet metal shop, Rubbermaid, and later for the City of Wooster at the Sewage Treatment Plant. He was an Army veteran of World War I, a 70-year member of the Woodsfield Masonic Lodge, and WWI Legion in Wooster, active in I.O.O.F., and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Kaye) Hess and Mrs. Carl (Betty Lee) Byler, both of Wooster; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.His wife, Elsa Harmon Matz, died in 1984.
