HENDERSON, Ky. Alma Glaser Jackson, 81, formerly of East Liverpool, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at the John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, Ind. following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1927 in Bellaire, Ohio, she was the daughter of Herbert C. and Mary Ann Glaser. She and her husband moved to the East Liverpool area in 1951 where they resided for nearly sixty years. They relocated to Henderson, Kentucky in January 2009.
A 1945 graduate of St. John's High School in Bellaire, Ohio, she worked for the Ohio Power Company for several years before becoming a full time wife and mother. She was a member of St. Aloysius Community Parish, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Women's Study Club. She also was a member of Newcomers Club, Child Study Club, East Liverpool City Hospital Auxiliary, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.
She is survived by her beloved husband of sixty years, Fred C. Jackson, whom she married Sept. 30, 1949. They recently renewed their wedding vows at a family celebration in June.
Also surviving are three daughters, Suzanne Oswald and her husband, Daniel of Cincinnati; Barbara Tappan and her husband, Rick of Henderson, Ky.; Lesley Dunlevy and her husband, David of Edmond, Okla.; and one son, Mark C. Jackson of Pleasanton, Calif.
She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Danielle Oswald Volk and her husband Thomas of Cincinnati; Meredith Tappan Lovell and her husband Christopher, Elizabeth Tappan, Benjamin Tappan and his wife Jodie, and Christopher Watson, all of Henderson, Ky.; Christopher Jackson and Matthew Jackson of Pleasanton, Calif.; Andrew Dunlevy of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Gregory Dunlevy and Emily Dunlevy of Edmond, Okla.
The fourth generation continues with two great-grandsons, Noah and Brady Volk of Cincinnati.
Surviving also are three sisters, Mary Virginia Zachar of Dunedin, Fla.; Patricia Curran of Moundsville, W.Va.; and Martha Thomas and her husband Latif of State College, Pa.; and a brother, John Glaser and his wife Susan of Lake Worth, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, William Brady of Chicago, Ill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Martin and Kathleen Brady and by two brothers Michael and William Glaser.
Fr. J. Edward Bradley of Henderson, Ky., will officiate the Rite of Christian Burial at 11 am. Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Aloysius Community Parish in East Liverpool.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Aloysius School in East Liverpool or Holy Name School in Henderson, Kentucky.
Burial is to be at Riverview Cemetery.
