Bernard Victor Giard, 77Bridport - Bernard V. Giard, 77, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, surrounded by family. He was born in Bridport on May 2, 1925, the son of Victor and Marguerite (Nadeau) Giard, and was a lifelong resident of Bridport. He served as a member of the National Guard, and in World War II. On Aug. 3, 1963, he married Doris E. Moulton. He was a farmer in Bridport for many years, retiring in 1987. In addition, he was a member of the Masons, served on the Board of Civil Authority, was a selectman for the town of Bridport and was on the Tri-Town Water Board. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Doris E. Giard; seven children; Sandra Garthaffner and her husband, Robert, of Orwell; Marilynn Giard and her husband, Harry Delp, of Burlington, Richard Giard and his wife, Martita, of Fairfield, Janice Flowers and her husband, Scott, of Savannah, N.Y., Sally Billings of Leicester, Judy Giard of Bridport, and Allen Giard and his wife, Karen, of Richmond; his sister, Kathryn Myrick; his brother, Russell Giard; his aunts, Violet Nadeau and Vivian Jackson; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Walter, Wallace, Robert and Arthur Giard. Family members described his love of family, and recalled him giving tractor rides to his grandchildren. A memorial service was held Tuesday at the family's home in Bridport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town Line First Response or the Bridport Fire Dept.
