(Shorty) Matz, 56, of 500 Middle Street, Polk, Ohio, died January 31, 1993, at his residence after a lingering illness. He was born on September 7, 1936, in Lewisville, Monroe County, Ohio to the late Willie T. and Nellie L. Morris Matz.He moved to Ashland, Ohio from Monroe County and had been an area resident for the past 38 years. He was retired from Eagle Rubber as a group leader in 1984, after 29 years service. He was affiliated with the Paradise Hill United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Polk Volunteer Fire Department and had been active in the community with several youth programs.He is survived by his wife, Florence JoAnn Miller, whom he married October 14, 1955; three sons, Rocky L. and Ronald L., both Ashland and Ray W. of Mansfield; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Norma Lee) Wilson and Bertha Cranmore, both of Ashland; one brother, Walter S. of Zanesville; six grandchildren.Funeral services were held February 3 at 11 a.m. in the Denbow-Primm Funeral Home, Ashland, with Reverend Dan Loomis officiating.
