He was born in Monroe County, Aug. 9, 1910, a son of the late Fred and Anna Claus Christman. A retired fanner, he was also a retired bartender at the American Legion post 578 at Batesville and a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ at Lewisville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Kahrig Christman and a son, Alva Christman Jr. Surviving are three sons, Emerson Christman of Byesville, Gerald Christman of Lafferty and Ellis Christman of Quaker City; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Eloise) Eschbaugh of Byesville, Mrs. Dale (Shirley) Stephens of Quaker City, Mrs. Richard (Diana) Sams of Marietta and Mrs. Carl (Evelyn) Hartley of Marietta; two brothers, Raymond Christman of Barnesville and Irvin Christman of El Paso, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 24 great ­grandchildren and five great great-­grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, today, 3 to 8 p.m. where services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Don Arbuckle officiating.
