'Whitey' Matz age 78, died Thursday, March 25, 2010. Born on Feb. 1, 1932 in Lewisville, Ohio (Monroe County) to Harry and Clara (Hoff) Matz, he married Dortha 'Dot' (Kahrig) on March 25, 1951. He was a resident of Dalton since 1949. A graduate of Lewisville High School Class of 1949, Wilfred had worked for Wenger Excavating and numerous trucking firms, owning his own 'rig' for many years. He retired from K & B Transport Inc. as a dispatcher. He had been a member of the Dalton Police force (under Raymond Berg), and was also a Dalton volunteer fireman. Preceded in death by his parents, and son, Tim Matz. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dortha 'Dot'; son, Donnie (Fran) Matz of Dalton; daughters, Linda (Donis) Kirk of Orrville, Carol (Blaine Jr.) Immel of Wooster; daughter-in-law, Jackie (Brenner) Matz of Virginia; grandchildren, Lisa (Steven) Hottle, Adam Kirk, Kristopher Immel, Dylan and Logan Matz; one great-grandson, Benjamin Hottle. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11 a.m., at Dalton Cemetery with Rev. Tim Hull officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are being handled by the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, Dalton, 44618. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, the Wayne County Kidney Foundation, 146 E.
