Matz Lake L. Matz, 70 of 222 Samaritan Ave., former manager of Western Union for 49 years, died at Samaritan Hospital at 3:34 a.m. today [submitter's note: 16 Mar 1973]. Mr. Matz retired from Western Union in July 1967. The son of Christian and Louise (Latta) Matz, he was born in Louisville [submitter's note: should be Lewisville] Aug 3, 1902. He had been a resident of Ashland for 59 years coming here from Louisville. On Nov. 30, 1935, he was married to Eva Louise Davis who survives. Other survivors include one son, David B. of Ashland and two sisters, Marguerite Matz of Ashland and Mrs. John O'Neil of Marion, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He was a member of Masonic Ashland Blue Lodge No. 151 F&AM, Chapter No. 67 and Council No. 128. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Merlin Vining officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
