Obituary
James P. Champagne, 92, of Westlake passed away August 12, 2016 peacefully at his home.
He was born in Breaux Bridge, LA in 1923 to the late Paul and Agnes (nee. Fabacher) Champagne. He graduated high school in 1941 and went on to proudly serve in the United States Army in the 1549th Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theatre. Upon returning to the United States he met the love of his life Rita Sybil "Chic" LeDoux.
James was an avid gardener and could often be found in his garden growing a variety of vegetables, especially tomatoes. He retired from Conoco in 1986 and traveled with "Chic" and attended every 1549th reunion they could. At 62 he learned to play tennis and played competitively until he was 81. He was an active member of St John Bosco Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #5755. He served as an Alderman with the city of Westlake and was proud of all that was accomplished during that time. He was a true family man and had a tremendous love for all of them and welcomed each new baby with all the love in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years; Rita Sybil "Chic" Champagne and daughter in law; Cindy Champagne. He is survived by his daughter; Loretta (Peter) Daigle, sons; Paul (Susan) Champagne and Charlie Champagne, grandsons; Larry (Rebecca) Abshire, Scott (Tammy) Abshire, Aaron (Kelly) Champagne, Jacob (Katie) Champagne and Brandon (Laci) Champagne and 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
