Frederick Jacob Bahlinger, Jr. passed away on April 10, 2018, after a brief illness. He was 89 years old. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, other than time spent In Lake Charles after college and serving in the US Army in Japan and Korean from 1951-1953. Fred was married to Claire Clack Bahlinger and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in December. He graduated from Catholic High School in 1945 and Louisiana State University in 1949 with a BS degree. He worked for many years at Kornmeyer's Furniture Company, and was beloved by employees and customers. He retired from Kornmeyer's in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Claire Clack Bahlinger, and four children and their spouses: Marie-Louise (M'Lou) Bahlinger Bixler (Matt) of Denver, CO, Frederick (Fritz) Jacob Bahlinger, III (Melissa) of Lacombe, LA, Lewis Kilbourne Bahlinger (DeeDee) of St. Amant, LA, and Hilary Claire Bahlinger Stephenson (Will) of Bueche, LA. He is survived by his siblings: Frances B. Fremin, Lawrence J. Bahlinger, of Baton Rouge; and Charlotte B. Walters of California. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Brooke Bahlinger, Jessica Bahlinger and Malachi Bahlinger. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Jacob Bahlinger, Sr. and Christina Fabacher Bahlinger; his step-mother Rose Fridge Bahlinger; brothers Eugene Thomas Bahlinger, David Kenneth Bahlinger, Peter Fabacher Bahlinger and sister Martha Bahlinger Haase. In about 1958 or 1960, Fred began teaching children the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. In the early sixties he became involved with Junior Achievement and worked with young people for some years. Fred was proud of participating in fundraising efforts for worthy causes, including raising money for baseball uniforms at Our Lady of Mercy Parish. He participated in retreats at Manresa House in Convent with young men from public high schools in the BR area. He was active in the Kiwanis Club, Catholic High Men's Club, and served on the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge. A visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 13. Visitation will continue at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Saturday, April 14, at 9:00 A.M with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. A private family burial will follow at a later date. Donations may be made in Frederick's name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2250 Main Street., Baton Rouge, 70802.
