Funeral services for Mercedes Champagne Gary, a native and lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge, will be held at 10 AM Friday at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge. The Rev. Michael Champagne will officiate.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 1.
Mercedes Champagne Gary, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, St. Bernard Catholic Church Altar Society and Gary Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Gary was a board member of Gary Memorial Hospital, a former school teacher and a home service advisor for Gulf State Utilities.
Survivors include a daughter, Mimi Gary Bargas and her husband, Gordon Bargas; a son, Robert "Bob" Gary and his wife, Barbara Chapman Gary; two brothers, Joe Champagne and his wife, Emily "Dusty" Champagne, and Leo P. Champagne Sr. and his wife, Lorraine; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Champagne; six grandchildren, Trey, Dottie and Charles Bargas and Tobey, Chap and Joseph Gary; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph Gary; her parents, George Champagne Sr. and Laurence St. Germaine Champagne; her brother, George Champagne Jr.; and sister and brother-in-law, Marie Champagne Bienvenu and Will Bienvenu.
Rosaries will be recited at 3 PM and 7 PM today.
Visitation will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home, 211 Berard St., Breaux Bridge, from 9 AM to 9 PM today and from 7 AM Friday, Nov. 16, until time of the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church Altar Society or Catholic Daughters of America, 204 N. Main St., Breaux Bridge, LA 70517.
Pellerin Funeral Home, 211 Berard St., Breaux Bridge, is in charge of the arrangements.
