Doris McKinney RuppertJanuary 22, 1924 - March 15, 2007 Doris McKinney Ruppert, in her 83rd year, passed away quietly on March 15, 2007. Born January 22, 1924 to a furniture manufacturer family in High Point, NC, she was a resident of the New Orleans metropolitan area for 55 years. She was a graduate of Duke University, a former registered nurse for the US Veterans Affairs Administration and former member of Metairie Methodist Church. She was the devoted mother of Joseph Herman Ruppert III of Metairie, Gregory Allen Ruppert (Barbara) of River Ridge; Melissa Ruppert Jessen (Walter) of Lake Charles; Jason Keith Ruppert (Jennifer) of San Jose, CA; and Karl Jacob Ruppert of Many, LA; and grandmother of Dietrich Walter Jessen III and Johanna Ruppert Jessen. She also leaves behind sisters, Irene Pruitt, Juanita McKinney, Margaret Arnold, and Colleen Parrish all of North Carolina. Mrs. Ruppert was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herman Ruppert Jr., parents, Frank Nathaniel and Louella Wood McKinney; and siblings, Junius, Artwood, Carl and Earl McKinney; Mozelle Howard and Rachel Sykes.

Doris M. Ruppert, née McKinney, in her 83rd year, quietly and comfortably departed this Life to resume another on March 15, 2007 of dilated cardiomyopathy from which she acutely suffered for several months. Born January 22, 1924 to a notable furniture manufacturer family in High Point, NC, she was a resident of the New Orleans metropolitan area for 55 years. A homemaker for most of her life, Ms. Ruppert is a graduate of Emma Blair and High Point High Schools and Duke University, a former registered nurse for the US Veterans Affairs Administration and a former member of Metairie Methodist Church. In 1952, she married the late Mr. Joseph Herman Ruppert, Jr. of the Ruppert Family of New York City and New Orleans, becoming his widow in 2001.
Doris was also a gifted artist. She left behind a collection of fashion illustrations she created from 1951-1953 when she first moved to New Orleans.
A loving and devoted mother, she leaves behind bereaved children Joseph Herman Ruppert III of Metairie, Gregory Allan Ruppert of River Ridge, Melissa Ann (Mrs. Dietrich Walter) Jessen of Lake Charles, Jason Keith Ruppert of San Jose, CA and Karl Jacob Ruppert of New York City and Many, LA; her grandchildren, Dietrich Walter Jessen III and Johanna Ruppert Jessen; and her son and daughters-in-law, Dietrich Walter Jessen Jr., Barbara Ann Monteleone-Ruppert and Jennifer A. Ellies-Ruppert.
Ms. Ruppert is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Herman Ruppert, Jr., parents, Frank Nathaniel and Louella M. Wood-McKinney, and six siblings: Junius, Artwood A., Mozelle (Mrs. Arthur) Howard, Carl Joseph, Earl Nathaniel and Rachel Mae McKinney-Sykes. She is survived by four sisters, Irene Parthenia (Mrs. Richard K.) Pruitt, W. Juanita McKinney, Margaret G. (Mrs. Joseph) Arnold, and Colleen (Mrs. Numie C.) Parrish, all of North Carolina. Devoted friends Madeleine J. Ruppert-Meals of Dallas, Virginia G. Reidl and long-time personal attendant and housekeeper, Lupe Billot of Metairie. A multitude of faithful neighbors share the grief of her passing.
Arrangements exclusively by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. March 20, 2007. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Rev. Walter Heine officiating. Interment private within Lake Lawn Metairie Cemeteries. In lieu of flowers, donations to National Coalition for Women With Heart Disease (www.womenheart.org)
