Joseph L. Epplin

Joseph L. Epplin, age 85, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at 8:05 a.m. in his home.Joe was born on April 30, 1921 in Pinckneyville, a son to Joe S. and Emma Katherine (Endres) Epplin. He married Mildred Brand on July 14, 1948 in Pinckneyville and she survives. He retired from the utility department at World Color Press in 1989 after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Pinckneyville where he had been a member for over 60 years. Joe enjoyed hunting Indian artifacts and hickory nuts, never met a stranger and had kind words for everyone.Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Pinckneyville; five sons, Jerome and wife Renee Epplin of Litchfield, Gene and wife Cindy Epplin of Terre Haute, Ind., Tom and wife Florine Epplin of Vandalia, Max and wife Patty Epplin of Pinckneyville, and Kenneth and wife Lois Epplin of Pinckneyville; one brother, Clarence and wife Celeste Epplin of Florissant, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Marge Epplin of Vergennes; twenty-one grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl, Edward, Clement, and Albert; and one sister, Agnes Bruns.
Funeral services will be held in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Cemetery.Friends may call at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. and then on Friday from 8:00 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. with the rosary being recited at 9:00 a.m.Memorial donations may be made to the Donor's Choice or Masses will be accepted at the funeral home.For more information or to sign an online guest register please visit www.pyattfuneralhome.com.
