He was one of twelve children: Ted, Alvin, Art, Reinhold, Anna, Ella, Edna, Aleatha, Frances, Bernice and Hazel. Fred was born in 1885 and died in 1942. Paulina was born in 1887 and died in 1981. Gust married Martha Opp February 28, 1929. They farmed near Eureka until the fall of 1964 when they moved to Rapid City. Martha was born June 28, 1910 to Jacob and Katherina Neuharth Opp. Mr. and Mrs. Gust Mettler and family Ten children were born to Gust and Martha. Ramona, born in 1929, married Ken Jackels. They have six children. Merle, born in 1932, is married to Elsie Heiser. They have one son. Stanley was born in 1934 and married Alice Heiser. They have two children. Marlene, born in 1936 married Marcus Skie. Carol was born in 1937 and married Lloyd Jung. They have three children. Vera was born in 1938. Fred, born in 1940, married Lila Stobner. They have three sons. Richard was born in 1943 and married Carol Robeson. They have three children. Van, born in 1947, is married to Pam Koupel. They have two children.
