Leo Feiock was born April 30, 1922, to Fred & Emma (Kurle) Feiock, on a farm near Leola. He attended country school through eighth grade, graduated from Leola High School and attended the School of Commerce in Aberdeen and also Mitchell Business College.
Leo was drafted in 1942 and served in the US Armed Forces in WWII until 1946. He served in England and France and after being wounded, was awarded the Purple Heart and received an honorable discharge. Leo returned to South Dakota to help on the family farm in Leola.
On Dec. 22, 1946, Leo married Emily Schauer at Ashley, N.D., and they moved to Aberdeen. They were married for 54 years before Emily died in early 2001. Leo and Emily enjoyed eight winters in Arizona.
Leo was employed in the office at Dakota Sash and Door for 3 1/2 years, co-owned a small business for 6 1/2 years and went on to work for the US Postal Service for 30 years before his retirement in 1982.
Leo married Lois (Boll) Engel on Aug. 17, 2002, at Aberdeen and they recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary.
Leo’s Christian faith was strong and he served God with energy and steadfastness, being an active member of First Baptist Church for 67 years. He served as a Trustee for many years, as an usher and as a member of the choir for over 60 years. He often helped with the maintenance of the church downtown and at its present location. Leo was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW and did volunteer work for the Senior Nutrition Program for many years.
Among things that gave Leo enjoyment were board games with family and friends, golf, Ping-Pong and Minnesota Twins baseball, along with singing in choir and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leo will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his sense of humor and his respect for and deep caring for his family.
