http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb *********************************************************************** *****Feb. 6, 2003***** Margaret Lebherz Mrs. Margaret "Sis" Staley Lebherz, 80, of 1001 Carroll Parkway, Brooklawn Apartments, Frederick, died on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., following complications from a massive heart attack. She was the wife of William Bennet Lebherz Jr, her husband of over 60 years. They were married Dec. 12, 1922, in Paris, Texas. Born in Frederick on May 7, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Francis Xavier and Florence Scarff Lamar Staley. Mrs. Lebherz was a lifelong Roman Catholic, and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Libertytown since 1988. Due to her husband's business activities, Sis and her family moved in 1966 to Northampton, Mass; to Cleveland Heights, Ohio; to Aurora, Ill; to Plymouth, Mich; to Woodstock, N.Y., and Westboro, Mass., before returning to Frederick in 1982. Mrs. Lebherz was an experienced homemaker; a first-rate cookie and caramel maker, especially of her renowned tart gingersnaps, and was a maker of homemade pickles and catsup. She loved gardening; was recently past president of the Casual Garden Club; co-founder of the Saturday Night Social Club, in 1946; and was an avid skilled bridge player. Surviving in addition to her husband are four local sons and three out-of- state daughters, William B. III, and wife, Diane McKay Lebherz; Susan L. Gontarz, and husband, Paul J, of Chelmsford, Mass, Charles F. and wife, Patti Hiner Lebherz, of Frederick, John T. and wife, Mary McGrain Lebherz, Joseph E. and Eileen Rafferty Lebherz; Margaret L. and husband, Alan P. Guncik, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and Anne K. and husband, Michael J. Berry of Aurora, Ill.; one brother, Lt. Col. Francis X. Staley, USFA Ret., of Frederick. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, Tania L. and Madison T. Tse, of Laurel, Sarah Lebherz, of Frederick; John A., William P., Rebecca J., and Keith R. Gontarz, of Chelmsford, Tara L. and Natalie L. Lebherz, Laura A. and Elizabeth A. Lebherz, Luke J., Emma K. and Jane L. Lebherz, all of Frederick; Thomas A. Guncik, of Cleveland Heights; Michael J. Jr, Vincent L. Melissa A., Stephen F. and Anthony W. Berry, all of Aurora, Ill.; and several cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 at Saint John's Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the St. John Regional Catholic School Capital Campaign, 114 East Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
