Harry B. Eicholtz III passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. He was 71.
Born on June 14, 1942, to the late Mr. Harry B. Eicholtz and Mrs. Edith Virginia Williams Eicholtz in Maryland, he grew up in Frederick. After school, he served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and he was trained as a diver and firefighter. Mr. Eicholtz married Joan M. Davis in November of 1962, and they lived in Glen Burnie until 1974, when the moved to Stevensville.
Mr. Eicholtz was a welder with Steam Fitters local union #56. He worked at Calvert Cliffs, Sparrows Point and the Baltimore Shipyard. Harry later worked for Fort Meade as a machine mechanic unitl retiring in the early 2000s. When he moved to Hurlock, he returned to work with his son with Eicholtz Construction until 2006. He was a founding member of KI carvers and won many ribbons for his carvings. Mr. Eicholtz also enjoyed teaching classes on carving, taking care of his animals on his small farm in Hurlock, and hunting and fishing.
Mr. Eicholtz is survived by his children, Robin D. Hatch of Kent Island, Kirk B. Eicholtz of Goldsboro, Lisa J. Webb of Centreville and Michael H. Eicholtz of Hurlock; nine grandchildren, Bryan K. Hatch, Crystal N. Hatch, Amber J. Schorr, Daniel B. Eicholtz, Zachary S. Webb, Joshua T. K. Eicholtz, George E. Hatch IV, Krysten D. Hatch and Alyssa Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Bryan Hatch and Aubrianna Schorr; and one aunt, Marie Butz.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, and services will be at the funeral home in Chester on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 11 a.m.
