Robert John Zwick, age 88, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 7035 St. Ludgerus Road, died on Monday, January 19, 2015 in the Home. He was born on February 21, 1926 in Quincy, the son of Christian and Mary (Bauhaus) Zwick. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Strieker on September 11, 1954 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives. Mr. Zwick was a contractor in the local area and the owner/operator of Bauhaus Zwick Company. Mr. Zwick was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School and Received a Degree in Architecture from Bradley University. He served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mr. Zwick was the former president of the Mart Heinen Club. He was also a member of Springlake CC and Cedar Crest CC. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, Rotary, and the Quincy Saddle Club.
Robert always put family first. He loved taking his family on vacation, riding his horses, playing golf, and coaching his children's teams. He was extremely proud of his construction and the building of St. Peter Church, Notre Dame, Zwick row, his own home and that of his son. He was honest, caring, and would do anything for his family.
In addition to his wife, Robert is also survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Vicky Mitchell and her husand Dick of Quincy; Judy Junkerman and her husband Rick also of Quincy; Dr. Christian Zwick and his wife LeAnn of Quincy and Joseph Zwick of Miami Beach, FL
SIX GRANDCHILDREN: Angie Slater and her husband Paul; Bob Mitchell and his fiancé Ashley Sheppard; Dr. Jamie Young and her husband Aaron; Nick Junkerman and his fiancé Amy Nueser; Gabrielle Zwick; and Christian Zwick III.
FIVE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Ella; Zayne; Nolan; Aila; & Sadie.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Robert was preceded in death parents, Three brothers: Joe, Otto and Paul Zwick and two sisters; Alma Zwick and Regina Cleve.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Sunset Cemetery with military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. Francis School.
