Bellam, Clarence W. "Babe"
CLARENCE W. "BABE" BELLAM, 92, of Huntington, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, 6:15 a.m., at his home. Mr. Bellam was a 1931 graduate of Andrews High School where he played basketball for four years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He had worked at the Caswell-Runyan Co. in Huntington prior to serving in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant with the 509th fighter squadron during World War II in Europe from 1941 to 1945. He worked as a conductor for the Erie-Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads from June 27, 1941 to June 28, 1976. He was a 60-year member of the United Transportation Union beginning in 1941. He was also a member of the Erie-Lackawanna Veterans Association and a member of the VFW Post 2689 of Huntington. Mr. Bellam was born on June 7, 1912, in Huntington, a son of Clarence Edward and Willie Mitchell Bellam. He was united in marriage to Miriam E. Lofland on May 12, 1949, in Huntington; his wife survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Steven Edward "Eddie" Bellam of Fort Wayne, Dennis Kent Bellam of Huntington; a sister, Swanora Saal of Huntington; and one grandson, Seth Edward Bellam of Fort Wayne. Two brothers, Fred Bellam and William Bellam preceded him in death. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, with Rev. Frank Gready officiating. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Interment at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Huntington.
