Nov. 8, 1915 - Jan. 30, 2004Robert W. Sible, 88, a prominent Allen County farmer and public educator, and a resident of rural Churubusco was found dead Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2004 at his residence in Eel River Township. His death was unexpected.
Born on Nov. 4, 1915 in Eel River Township, a son of Pearl and Venora (Hollopeter) Sible, he spent his formative years there. He graduated from Huntertown HIgh School in 1933. He earned a bachelor's degree from Manchester College in 1937 and later received his master's degree from Indiana University in 1942.He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.On June 17, 1951, he was married in New Haven to Elsie M. Bacon and the couple spent all of their married lives on the same farm southeast of Churubusco in Allen County. Mrs. Sible died June 20, 1994.Widely acquainted as a teacher in Allen County, his teaching career spanned a 35-year period. He taught at Huntertown High School, Washington Center School and retired from Harlan Elementary School in 1970. He was also engaged in farming in Eel River Township all his life.He was a member of Churubusco United Methodist Church and the Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM.Surviving relatives include a daughter, Cheryl (Leroy) Schaefer of Fort Wayne; a son, David L. Sible of Albion; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.A sister, Myrtle Marschand, died in 2003.The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Churubusco United Methodist Church with the Rev. Christine Newman-Jacobs, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, or at the church one hour prior to the service. Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Interment is at Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Churubusco United Methodist Church.
