Charles E. Feiock III, 83, of 1445 School Avenue N.E., North Canton, Ohio (formerly of Lewisville, Ohio) died at 6:45 a.m., Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at the Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio.
He was born at Lewisville, Ohio, April 24, 1921, a son of the late Charles Everett and Lola Eddy Feiock.
He was a 1939 graduate of Lewisville High School, Lewisville, Ohio. He worked in Parma, Ohio until he was 21 years old and then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in May of 1942 and getting called up in October 1942. During this time, he went through the Civilian Pilot Training School at New Philadelphia, Ohio. Chuck earned his Navy pilot wings and Ensign rating at Pensacola, Florida and spent the next 22 years serving the Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander after serving during World War II, Korean War and the Viet Nam War. While in the Navy he attended Ohio State University and earned a bachelor of science degree in Meterology from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. He was a graduate of the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Maryland. He saw duty aboard aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean, was the first Navy pilot to fly the R3Y Trade Wind Plane, served two years in the Philippines and flew about 20 flights to the South Pole while in America.
He met Shirley Hallbrerg while he was stationed at Traverse City, Michigan. They married on July 4, 1946 at his parents home in Lewisville, Ohio.
After retiring from the Navy, Chuck was the manager for seven years of the Miller Airport in North Benton, Ohio. He then worked in Real Estate. He ended his active working years as a savings counselor for First Federal Savings and Loan of Canton, Ohio.
He was a Protestant by faith, a member of the Alliance Elks Club, Alliance, Ohio, Uniontown Rotary Club, Uniontown, Ohio and the Board of Realtors. He was also an avid golfer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Shirley Hallberg Feiock on Aug. 18, 1994.
Surviving are his companion, Alice Long of North Canton, Ohio; cousins: Dan and Janet Stoffel of Lewisville, Ohio and Neil and Barbara DeWitt of Canal Winchester, Ohio.
Friends will be received Thursday at 11 a.m., until time of services at 1 p.m., with Rev. Karen Benford officiating at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery with full military graveside services by the Belmont Veterans Council.
