Elmer Allmendinger, 75, February 23, 1929 - March 21, 2004Elmer Allmendinger, 75, February 23, 1929 - March 21, 2004Funeral services for Elmer Allmendinger were held Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls. He was born February 23, 1929, in Tripp to William and Rosina (Stoebner) Allmendinger. He married Inez Baumiller on March 12, 1950. The couple lived in the Tripp/Parkston area for many years where Elmer farmed and worked at various service stations. The family moved to Sioux Falls in the late 1950s. Elmer cleaned and installed carpet and began working in the sanitation business. In the early 1970s, they moved to Beresford where he continued in the sanitation business and was later employed at Woodfield Center until his retirement. Inez passed away in May of 1998. Elmer continued to live in Beresford until moving to Galena, Mo., where he has resided until the present time. He died March 21 at the Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls at the age of 75 years. He is survived by two sons: Bruce, Sioux Falls, and Todd and wife, Joan, Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters: Velva "Jeanie" Wheeler and husband, Jerry, Garretson, and Darci Allmendinger, Sioux Falls; special friend Kay Anderson; 11 grandchildren, Monica Bettin, Maureen Kleven, Marlene Luedtke, Heather and Tim Allmendinger, Travis, Tyler and Candis Walter, Shelby Brillhart and Stephen and Philip Allmendinger; eight great-grandchildren: Breah, Cole, Kasey, Kendra, Tayla, Braiden, Kenzie and Riley; three brothers: Erwin, Upper Lake, Calif., Leo, Denver, Colo., and Melvin, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Marie Tiede, Lodi, Calif., and Bertha Baltzer, Freeman; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and one sister. Memorials may be directed to the Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage program.

April 4, 2012 Paul Douglas Reiss, 70, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Paul was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was a Eucharistic minister and helped the church in many ways, serving at the food pantry and in the Rosary Society. In May, he was to be commissioned in the Ministry of Pastoral Care at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Reiss served in the U.S.M.C. and was in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the Naval Gunfire Liaison Team. Paul was honorably discharged 1964 as a corporal. He received a degree in chemical technology from OCC in 1967. Paul was employed at Allied Chemical as a research technician over 12 years. He also volunteered at the American Red Cross. Paul enjoyed his family, taking candid photos and was an avid sports fan who followed Cleveland and Syracuse teams. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Edward H. and Virginia B. (Radziszewski) Reiss, and is survived by daughters Jennifer (Nicholas) Defio of Syracuse and Ann (Thomas) Horth of North Syracuse; grandchildren Nicky, Julie, Ally and Justin; sisters Sharon Meddley of Virginia and Margot (Richard) Cole of Hannibal; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. Funeral services are 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hollis Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by burial with military honors at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lakeland. Instead of flowers, family requests donations to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, NY 13204.
