Alice M. BenikeAlice M. Benike, nee Sauer, 84, of West Bend, died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at St. Joseph?s Community Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 27, 1918 in the town of Addison to the late Carl and Catherine (nee Kreilkamp) Sauer.
After her marriage to Carl Benike on Nov. 29, 1939 at Sacred Heart Church in Allenton, the couple settled in West Bend.
She was employed at the West Bend Pharmacy for about 15 years, and after that was the manager of the outlet store at Amity Leather Products Co. for more than 24 years.
Alice and Carl spent their summers at Land O? Lakes for more than 20 years.
Among her favorite pastimes were playing sheepshead and playing bingo.
She was a member of West Bend Chapter 732 of the Women of the Moose, the National Society of Catholic Foresters and the Christian Women?s Confraternity at Holy Angels Church.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Imelda Sauer of West Bend; Carl?s brother and sisters, George (Carol) Benike of Campbellsport, Stella Horn of Sussex, Florence Graff of Phelps and Lucille Daanen of De Pere; a niece, Barbara (Robert) Puerling of Tomahawk; two nephews, Robert (Barb) Sauer of West Bend and Richard (Karen) Sauer of Verona, and their families; Carl?s nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Alice was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Sauer, on April 19, 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
Father John Wutscheck will be the presider, and burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be on Saturday from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Memorials to the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin are appreciated.
The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.
