Birth: Jun. 1, 1829 Death: Jan. 23, 1897 Edwardsville Madison County Illinois, USA Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Tuesday, January 26, 1897, page 1: Mrs. Margaret Schmitt, for a long number of years a resident of the north end of town, died Saturday morning at 7:30 o'clock, having attained the age of 66 years, 7 months and 22 days. The funeral took place yesterday morning at ten o'clock from the family resident to St. Boniface's church, thence to the Catholic cemetery. A solemn requiem mass was said, with Rev. Fr. J.D. Metzler, celebrant; Rev. Fr. A. Schlegel, deacon, and Rev. Fr. C.A. O'Reilly, sub-deacon. The pall bearers were John Stolze, Henry Epping, N.E. Bosen, A. Oestrich, John Ax and Frank Stenzel. Deceased leaves five children to mourn her death, viz: Herman J., Louis, Aloysius, William and Bertha.
