Walter D. Dodge Jr. ? SUNSET BEACH, N.C. | Walter De- Forest Dodge Jr., died peacefully of old age in his Sunset Beach Intracoastal re- tirement home of 30 years on Sunday, November 29, 2009. He is going home to God and to his wife, Catherine, with whom he shared their 58th wedding anniversary before she preceded him in death in 2007. Walter was born in In- wood, Long Island, New York, the son of the late Mary Louise and Walter DeForest Dodge Sr. He served as an active member and president of the Far Rocka- way Chamber of Commerce and President of Franklin Na- tional Bank in Inwood, then, Peninsula National Bank in In- wood. Walter and ?Kay? en- joyed raising their three chil- dren in Huntington Station, N.Y. and spending summers in the mountains of Delhi, N.Y. with sons, Kenneth, a veteri- narian of Fabius, N.Y., Greg, a government contracts manag- er of Warrenton, Va.; and daughter, Sharon, a local pot- tery crafter of Sunset Beach, N.C. During his 92 years of mostly great health, Walter bred gold- en retrievers, showing one to a championship including at Westminster, raised prize-win- ning canaries often having 30 or more cages of birds and broods.
