OBITUARY
Judith "Judy" Anne (Mayer) Dauenhauer, loving wife and mother of two, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2020 at age 81 after battling vascular dementia and diabetes for several years.
Born on July 27, 1939 and raised in Queens, NY, Judy married Frank C. Dauenhauer on July 18, 1959. Judy came to live in Rochester in September 1966 with her husband and two young daughters following Frank's relocation to Eastman Kodak company headquarters. She worked as an administrative secretary for former Rochester mayor, Tom Ryan, at his law office before he became mayor, then for Mutual of New York and Phoenix Home Life insurance companies; she was a tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, and lastly worked as an administrative assistant for the Diocese of Rochester, retiring in 1998. She was a true Renaissance woman, with many creative passions, including crochet and needlework, drawing and painting, and many other crafts, and actively pursued her primary hobby, genealogy. She was also an avid reader and especially loved mysteries.
The first person in her family to earn a degree in higher education, she was constantly working to improve her knowledge, earning an AAS degree in Executive Secretarial Science from Monroe Community College in 1979 while working part-time and being a fantastic mom. She also earned a Certified Professional Secretary designation, several insurance and tax certifications, and was a notary public.
Judy will be remembered for her love of family, her generous heart, her wisdom and strength, and her passion for life. She was first and foremost a wonderful mother, wife, aunt, and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
Judy is predeceased by her mother and father, Florence M. Horan and John J. Mayer; her brother Richard (Carol) Mayer; and her sister Janet (Edward) Cermak. She is survived by her husband Frank; daughters Susan (Craig) Kendall and Janette (Stephen North); granddaughters Lillian and Allison North; sister-in-law Lorraine (Gordon) Tiedemann of Lynbrook, NY; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private in Rochester, NY. Bartolomeo Perotto Funeral Home will assist with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rochester Regional Health Lifetime Care Home Health Care Hospice. The family wish to thank the staff at Hill Haven Nursing home and Hospice Services at Rochester Regional Health for their care and support.
