Bio: Kathryn Imogene "Jean" Gruber, 88, of Williamstown, W.Va., passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Parkersburg Care & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Thursday, April 26, 1923 in Hinton, W.Va. to the late Elbert and Rose Ellen Cales Lilly. Jean was the foster daughter of the late Okey and Georgiana Johnson of Williamstown. She graduated from Williamstown High School and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church where she belonged to the Sanctuary Society and was very active in the social committee. She was presently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marietta, Ohio. Jean retired from St. Joseph's Hospital from the Respiratory Therapy Department in 1991.
She is survived by daughters Carol Jean Hicks (Wiley) of Parkersburg, Christina Ellen Wallbrown (Michael) and Alisa Ann Benear (Darrel) both of Williamstown, son Robert Louis Gruber (Renee) of Grovetown, Ga., grandchildren Bill Hale, Chaya Gruber, J.D. Gruber, Patrick Gruber, Emily, Bethaney and Abby Benear and Jennifer Wallbrown, great grandchild Akela.
She married Robert Lee Gruber in 1947 who preceded her in death Dec. 31, 2000 along with a son Patrick, four sisters and four brothers. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 10 a.m.. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Michael Campbell officiating, burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike Street with a wake service at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Restoration Fund in Kathryn's name.
